At the beginning of the year, my husband, myself, and our friend Sarah took a little road trip to the Allegheny National Forest. My husband's family has a camp there that we don't get to nearly enough. We decided to take a wintery trip for the weekend when the snow melted just a bit. When we got inside the camp we immediately started a fire, grabbed a beer, and made some pizza. Just typical camp stuff.

The next day we did breakfast at Texas Hot Lunch, which is a tradition for us. You can't go to camp and not eat Texas Hot Lunch. After breakfast we roamed around the town of Kane, PA for a little, popping into a chocolate shop and the best Goodwill I have ever found. We literally bought 90% of our wedding glassware there a year before we got married, got brand new duck boots for $20 last year, and a Woolrich flannel for $3 on this visit. We ventured out of town towards the Kinzua Bridge. On our way there we passed a cozy little cafe named Kaffe Sol and had to turn around to get some more caffeine (and homemade orange cookies) for our rainy & windy walk on the bridge. Once we made it to Kinzua it was even rainier and windier than before, so we didn't spend too much time at the end on the bridge, or what used to be the middle I guess. We went inside to explore the new interactive museum and it was super fun and adorable. We were basically toddlers playing with the train parts and flipping through images of scenery trying to point out the hidden animals. After Kinzua we headed back to camp to eat some homemade chili, get cozy, and settle in for a camp classic, Fried Green Tomatoes.

Sunday morning we woke up and made crappy coffee and breakfast in a cast iron skillet. It was just barely warm enough that we bundled up and sat on the open porch where the sun was shining. After breakfast we drove to the Tionesta Scenic Area to do a little hiking. This is the only time I really got to take pictures over the weekend besides on my phone because it wasn't freezing and raining. The sunlight through the trees was beautiful and gave the illusion of warmth. We walked the loops of crispy frozen trails with burnt orange leaves covering the paths. Once we completed the loop, we drove back to camp to pack up and head back to the city. We love getting to camp every chance we get. It's nice to go away to a place that has so many warm and familiar memories living there, and the potential for many more to come.
