For the past few years, my husband has gone on work trips to Detroit, Michigan. For the past two years I've been fortunate enough to be able to travel with him. Detroit has been one of my favorite places to visit. It has so much uniqueness within a small area. Even from neighborhood to neighborhood the dynamic and environment can change. When we went to Detroit last year I went to visit the Heidelberg Project, Hamtramck Disneyland, Belle Isle, and just to explore the city of Detroit! Downtown has a ton of street art and a cool hidden alleyway filled with entrances to speakeasy type bars and restaurants and is covered in street art.
This year we decided to explore different areas around the city to see some new things! The first night we went to a brewery with great food and even better beer with someone my husband went to college with. One morning I randomly found a park to explore by myself. It's called the Robert H. Long Nature Park, and the morning I went it was super chilly and foggy. The area was swampy and filled with ducks, swans, and even a heron! The thing that was the most impressive to me were the spider webs! I have never seen so many in one place in my life! Which, if I thought about too much was quite unnerving. But they were absolutely breathtaking! Covered in dew and water droplets, all beautifully made and attached to trees, leaves, plants.. whatever was nearby. I couldn't take enough photos of all of the webs! After the park, I picked up my husband and we ate at a place called the Jolly Pumpkin and man was it awesome! Definitely recommend for good beer, cool location, and amazing pizza!
On our way out of Detroit, we decided to find something different to do. We have never been to a true aquarium before, which Michigan has a ton of. We picked one on our route out and decided to stop by. Unknown to us, the aquarium was in a mall and had a pretty clear appeal to humans much younger than us. Despite the initial awkwardness, the aquarium was actually pretty cool. You could touch starfish, find disgusting octopus hiding in their tank, see hilarious sting rays (who look like they're always smiling from underneath), and even the biggest most startling eel named Jeff that I've ever seen. All in all, we had a pretty interesting and amusing time at Sea Life. More suitable for children? Probably. Enough to entertain two adults for awhile? Absolutely.
Here's a look into our trip to Detroit, and by that I mean mostly of spider webs and the nature park.
