My husband, Danny, and I usually have a pretty packed schedule. We're involved in a lot, we like a lot of people, and we like to see new (and old) places. When we make a trip, we always try to find somewhere new to experience. A few weeks back when we were driving home to Pittsburgh from Fort Wayne, Indiana, I began searching my phone for Ohio oddities, pretty things, and something new. I came across a lot of great options, but settled on the Marblehead Lighthouse. This was a wonderful choice of detours!
It only added about an hour of travel time to our trip, and it was totally worth it! We drove through this tiny town on a Sunday afternoon where most everything was closed. When we parked near the lighthouse, it was much colder and windier than expected! (You know, being on Lake Erie and what not). We got out of the car and I immediately head towards the rock and water with my camera in hand. The sky was blue with beautiful wispy winter clouds, but there was a heavy fog just above the lake all around. It was stunning. We climbed the rocks and I took pictures of the frigid water, and yes, I touched it, it was frigid.
I decided to do an impromptu mini shoot of Danny. I'm not sure that "modeling" for me is one of his favorite things, in fact, I know it's not. However, it is one of mine! So he cooperates and smiles every once and a while, and ends up with some pretty fun photos in the end. We even traded places and he took his spot behind the lens to take some photos of me. I think it's fun to take pictures of each other in the places we explore every once and a while. I like to think that one day we'll look back and remember what it felt like to be in that place and that time. I like to document our lives to look back on in a different form of memories. Hopefully these photos will become a part of that collection one day.
Check out the Marblehead Lighthouse! It's the oldest functioning lighthouse on the U.S. side of the Great Lakes.
The guy at The Red Fern Inn shared this info with us over a glass of wine. Check this place out too! Good wine, cute environment, and games to play!
Also, great sandwiches for a quick lunch/dinner at The Sandwich Shoppe inside The Erie Social Shuffleboard Club & Bar. We unfortunately didn't have time to play shuffleboard, but you definitely should make time!
